No ‘sensible government’ invests in old coal-fired power: Leigh | Sky News Australia
Shadow Assistant Treasurer Andrew Leigh has told Sky News that Australia's solution to energy and climate needs won’t be found by extending ageing coal-fired plants: it will be found by investing in a ‘suite of renewables’. His comments follow an AGL Energy announcement saying it will not sell its Liddell Power Station to Alinta, choosing instead to close the plant in 2022. Mr Leigh says no sensible government would invest taxpayer money in an old coal-fired power plant that costs 20 per cent more than the alternative energy investments AGL is considering.
